Screen Door live at the Saint James

One month ago Applied Silence had our first live gig, performing Screen Door at Saint James Community Square in Vancouver. We were Shanto Acharia (bass, sundry effects), Tasha Faye Evans (vox), Steven Hill (vox), Jessie Liang (vox), Stephen Lyons (drums, guitar), Paul Rigby (pedal steel, piano), and me doing some amateur conducting, amateur percussion, and operating a 404 sampler like a true amateur. Using the forthcoming Screen Door record as a template, Lyons did the thematic composition and musical direction, I did the other kind of direction, and he and I co-produced. Pi Theatre presented. We got lucky: the show transpired before this latest variant became its own kind of menace and the theatre, an old church, was filled (or as filled as the 75% capacity limit allowed) with a beautifully attentive and varied audience who laughed at the right places. A great, eerie, noisy, serene night. More to come in 2022. All photos by Craig Sinclair.
