Steps

People silently fret in formal wear. A bell rings. Everyone rises and begins to dance with invisible partners to Miles Davis’ ‘Flamenco Sketches,’ prompting reveries on solitude, loneliness, cities and secret connections. The music, the dancing, the reveries: everything seeks suspension. Longing is like smoke.

"...five performers dressed in ’50s evening wear dance with invisible partners and take turns delivering short speeches on the theme of jazz. One character describes a group of people who are hanging on hooks outside their apartments in the urban night, passing around a flask. What a great image. Originality. At last.”
